Our Eco Journey
Kidz Village International Kindergarten’s commitment to environmental sustainability is further strengthened through the adoption of Eco-Schools Programme from the World Wild Fund For Nature (WWF).
We started our eco-journey when the school opened its doors in 2013 with the school’s initiative of creating a sustainable environment through engaging projects for our young learners.
We aim to strengthen our commitment by joining the Eco-Schools program. The Kidz Village community is currently working towards earning the Eco-Schools Green Flag in 2025.
Most recently we were awarded with the prestigious Eco-Schools Silver Award as “a testament to our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and education.”
Eco-Schools Programme is an environmental education programme for sustainable environmental management in a school. There are more than 50,000 schools in 67 member countries around the world implementing this programme.
The programme gives an opportunity for children to understand the importance of nature and environment, to learn about environmental management, and to make a change for the sustainable future.
The Eco-Schools programme is an international environmental education programme; offering a well-defined, controllable way for schools to take environmental issue from the curriculum and apply them to the regular activities in school. The Eco-Schools is operated in 67 countries world-wide; sharing the same methodology and concept. The Eco-schools is identified by the Eco-Schools logo and Green Flag.
The programme embeds UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) framework and follows a 7-step approach. This helps schools and student committees to delve deeper into environmental topics and work on solution-based actions, to drive tangible change and improve their school’s environmental footprint.
The Eco-Schools 7 steps methodology is a series of carefully engineered measures to help schools maximise the success of their Eco-School ambitions. The method involves a wide diversity of individuals from the school community – with students playing a primary role in the process.
The most important aspect for schools to remember is that every school is different and it is therefore critical that a school fits the seven steps around its circumstances and situation and NOT try to fit the school into the seven steps.
Our Environmental Review Team has conducted a review covering 9 topics as shown here. The results of the review were discussed and 3 urgent issues were selected by the Kidz Village Review Team for the Kidz Village community to vote on the top 2 issues.
The urgent issues that Kidz Village community voted for are “Litter Reduction & Recycling” as a primary issue and “Reducing Unsustainable Materials” as a secondary issue which are our main focus topics for the academic year 2023/2024. We have developed an Action Plan regarding the 2 chosen issues including objectives, targets, activity details, and duration.
The most important aspect for schools to remember is that every school is different and it is therefore critical that a school fits the seven steps around its circumstances and situation and NOT try to fit the school into the seven steps.
